Kraken Referral Code
Sign up for Kraken through a referral link and you both receive up to $20 USDG once your friend deposits fiat and completes a qualifying, non-stablecoin trade within 15 days of registering, with total payouts on your account capped at $200 USDG.
This program uses referral links rather than codes - the button below is the referral itself and applies the bonus automatically. Completely free, no payment or paywall.
If you sign up through this page, this site may receive the referrer's side of the reward. This never costs you anything extra.
Requirements to qualify
- You sign up via the app link.
- You deposit fiat and complete a qualifying trade within 15 days (stablecoin trades excluded).
- Capped at 10-20 referrals.
What you get, and what it takes
Checked directly on Kraken's own referrals page on 28 August 2026, the current offer is a flat amount rather than a range: you and your friend each receive up to $20 USDG, and the same page states you are eligible for payouts up to $200 USDG in total across everyone you refer, which works out to roughly ten rewarded referrals at that rate. Kraken's own FAQ text on that same page separately describes referral-count caps of ten, fifteen or twenty depending on the offer, and the two statements do not fully reconcile. Treat the terms shown on the screen where you actually claim as the ones that govern, since Kraken can and does change this program.
The condition sits on your friend's side of the deal. A new signup on its own does nothing; they need to deposit fiat currency from a bank account and complete a qualifying trade, in anything other than a stablecoin, within 15 days of creating the account. Once that happens, Kraken says to allow at least 14 days for the reward to post to your account, tracked from a referrals dashboard in the meantime. Paid advertising to promote your link, such as search ads or sponsored social posts, is against the program's terms.
The reward currency itself is specific: USDG, not an arbitrary stablecoin, and not the crypto of your choice. What that means and why it is the coin Kraken picked is covered in its own section below, because it connects directly to a regulatory change Kraken had no real choice about.
What Kraken actually is
Kraken trades under Payward, Inc., a privately held US company based in San Francisco, run by co-chief executives Arjun Sethi and Dave Ripley, with co-founder Jesse Powell as chairman. It was founded in 2011 and has traded continuously since September 2013, through the Mt. Gox collapse and the 2022 wave of failures that took down Celsius, Voyager and FTX, without a documented breach that resulted in customer funds being stolen from customer balances.
In the EU, Payward Europe Solutions Limited holds a MiCA crypto-asset service provider authorisation from the Central Bank of Ireland, registration C468360, granted 25 June 2025 and passportable across the EEA. A related entity, Payward Europe Digital Solutions (CY) Ltd, separately holds a MiFID investment firm licence from Cyprus's CySEC, licence 342/17, which is what actually permits Kraken to offer regulated derivatives inside the EU rather than only spot trading. In the UK, Payward Limited is registered with the FCA under the money laundering regulations, which supervises anti-money-laundering controls rather than authorising the business the way an investment firm is authorised, and it carries no Financial Services Compensation Scheme protection.
Kraken publishes the rest of its licensing footprint openly: a FinCEN money services business registration and a Wyoming special purpose depository institution in the US, a FINTRAC registration in Canada, and licences or registrations in Australia, Argentina and Bermuda among others, all listed on its own disclosure page. On market coverage, Kraken's public API listed 1,374 tradable spot pairs on 15 August 2026, of which 519 are quoted directly in euro, a wider selection than most competitors offer in that currency.
What it costs to use
Kraken publishes its full spot fee schedule rather than hiding it behind a signed-in account, confirmed on its own fee schedule page on 28 August 2026. Kraken Pro, the order-book product, charges 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker at the entry tier with no 30-day volume behind you, falling as you trade more: 0.22% and 0.38% once your 30-day volume passes $10,000, and lower again at higher tiers. That entry tier is worth noting because a number of older reviews still quote Kraken Pro at 0.16% and 0.26%; Kraken moved to cross-platform fee tiers that count spot, margin and futures volume together, and the current starting rate is meaningfully higher than that.
The simple app screen, Instant Buy and Sell, costs more: Kraken states a 1% fee on instant and recurring trades and 1.5% on custom orders, with a spread on top whose size Kraken does not publish. Trading through the order book instead of the instant screen is the single biggest lever you have over what you pay on Kraken, and it applies however small your trade is.
Funding is cheap by SEPA and vaguer by card. Kraken's own blog, updated for its SEPA Instant rollout, states SEPA deposits are free with a €1 minimum and that a SEPA Instant withdrawal through its ClearJunction route costs €0.90 with a €3 minimum; a standard, non-instant SEPA withdrawal carries its own flat fee that Kraken does not state on that page, so check the exact figure on your own withdrawal screen. Card purchases are murkier still: Kraken's card-fee support article, last updated 19 August 2026, sets a €10 minimum purchase in the EEA and states the total fee, including an unpublished spread, only appears on the confirmation screen before you pay, rather than in a fixed table you can read in advance. Crypto withdrawal fees work the same way: they vary by coin and network and Kraken shows the number before you confirm, never a flat rate you can quote ahead of time.
Kraken+ is a separate subscription, checked 15 August 2026 at €4.99 a month or €49.99 a year, that waives the Instant Buy and Sell fee on up to €10,000 of monthly volume across Buy, Sell, Convert and recurring purchases. It does not apply to Kraken Pro, and the unpublished spread and any card processing fee still apply on top. For someone who only ever uses the simple app screen and trades a few hundred euro a month, it is close to free money; for anyone comfortable using Kraken Pro directly, the order book is already cheaper without a subscription.
How the referral works, and how to claim it
The program runs through an app link or QR code rather than a code typed at signup, and the reward posts automatically once your friend clears the deposit-and-trade requirement, without either of you filing a separate claim.
- Have a current Kraken invite link ready before you start.
- Download the Kraken app and sign up for a new account using that link, if you are new to Kraken and live in an eligible country.
- Deposit fiat currency into the new account from a bank account.
- Complete a qualifying trade in anything other than a stablecoin, within 15 days of signing up.
- Allow at least 14 days after that trade for the reward to post to both accounts, tracked from the Referrals dashboard in the app.
Pros, cons, and who this actually suits
Kraken's real advantage is transparency you can act on. The full Kraken Pro fee ladder is published, the licensing footprint is listed entity by entity rather than asserted in marketing copy, and Kraken runs an independent, self-verifiable proof-of-reserves review rather than a self-attestation. Add a MiFID licence on top of its MiCA authorisation and it is one of the few EU-facing platforms that can legally offer regulated crypto derivatives at all.
The honest downsides sit right next to those strengths. The entry-tier Kraken Pro rate has risen and now sits well above the number many comparison sites still quote, so check the live fee schedule rather than trust a cached figure. The simple app screen costs meaningfully more than the order book, and most new users start there without realising a cheaper option exists one tab away. USDT and four other stablecoins were pulled from the EEA platform in 2025, covered below, so anyone who held or traded USDT specifically needs a different plan. The UK registration is anti-money-laundering supervision, not full FCA authorisation, and carries no FSCS protection, a distinction Kraken's own disclosures state plainly but that is easy to miss.
Sign up if you want a platform with a published fee schedule you can actually check, genuine EU derivatives access through the Cyprus licence, and you are willing to use Kraken Pro rather than the default buy button. Look elsewhere if you specifically want the simplest possible app experience: Coinbase's interface is generally rated easier for a first-time buyer, though its own order-book fees are not published in the way Kraken's are, so the comparison is easier app against cheaper, checkable pricing rather than one platform beating the other outright.
Why the reward is paid in USDG, and what that traces back to
The referral reward above is not an arbitrary choice of coin. USDG, short for Global Dollar, is a stablecoin issued by Paxos through the Global Dollar Network, and it is one of a very small number of dollar stablecoins that actually hold MiCA authorisation in the EU, alongside Circle's USDC. Kraken is not a neutral payer of this coin: it is a named commercial partner in the Global Dollar Network alongside Robinhood, Mastercard, Anchorage Digital and Paxos itself, so paying a reward in USDG also promotes a stablecoin Kraken has a direct stake in.
That choice sits downstream of a regulatory change that removed Kraken's other options. Starting in February 2025, Kraken restricted margin use of USDT for EEA customers, halted USDT spot trading for the same region on 24 March 2025, and automatically converted remaining EEA holdings after 31 March 2025, alongside four other stablecoins: PYUSD, EURT, TUSD and UST. The reason was not a Kraken decision so much as a Tether one: Tether chose not to seek MiCA authorisation for USDT, and MiCA's rules bar an EU-licensed platform from offering a non-compliant stablecoin to retail clients in the bloc, on pain of its own authorisation. Binance, Coinbase and Crypto.com made the same call around the same time, for the same reason.
The practical point for you is narrow but useful: if you are an EEA resident claiming this reward, USDG is effectively one of the only dollar stablecoins Kraken remains legally able to hand you, not a marketing pick among many. If you are outside the EEA, check the reward screen at claim time, since the exact asset offered elsewhere is not guaranteed to be USDG.
Kraken referral code FAQ
What do I get with the Kraken referral program?
Up to $20 USDG each, credited to you and your friend once they deposit fiat and complete a non-stablecoin trade within 15 days of signing up. Kraken caps total payouts on your account at $200 USDG across everyone you refer.
Do stablecoin trades count toward the Kraken referral requirement?
No. Kraken specifically excludes stablecoin trades from the qualifying-trade requirement, so your friend needs to trade something else, in any amount, within the 15-day window.
How long does the Kraken referral reward take to arrive?
Kraken says to allow at least 14 days after your friend completes the deposit and qualifying trade before the reward posts to either account, and progress can be tracked from the Referrals dashboard in the app.
Is Kraken regulated in the EU and UK?
In the EU, Payward Europe Solutions Limited holds a MiCA authorisation from the Central Bank of Ireland, and a related Cyprus entity holds a MiFID licence that covers derivatives. In the UK, Kraken is registered with the FCA for anti-money-laundering supervision only, which is narrower than full authorisation and carries no FSCS cover.
Why can't I trade USDT on Kraken as an EEA resident?
Kraken delisted USDT and four other stablecoins for EEA customers between February and March 2025 after Tether chose not to seek MiCA authorisation, which EU rules require for a licensed platform to keep offering a stablecoin to retail clients in the bloc.
Is Kraken cheaper than Coinbase?
For an order-book trade, yes on the numbers Kraken publishes: its entry Pro tier and its funding fees are all listed openly, where Coinbase does not publish its equivalent Advanced order-book rates outside a signed-in account. Coinbase is generally considered the easier app for a first-time buyer.
Has Kraken ever been hacked?
No breach of Kraken's own systems has resulted in stolen customer funds. In June 2024 a bug in its funding system let a reporter and two others withdraw close to $3 million before Kraken patched the flaw within about an hour of disclosure; Kraken says the money came from its own treasury rather than customer balances, and it was returned that month.
